Apple is having a tough time handling the reception complaints. Apple had earlier blamed the software for the reception problem. And now to overcome this problem, apple released iOS4.0.1.
Few days ago Apple had made the iOS4.1 beta available for developers. It seems apple want to finish this reception problem as soon as possible.
The iOS4.0.1 comes with an improved formula to determine the signal bars. The reception problem is only associated with iPhones and not with the other i-devices and so the update is only for iPhones (i.e. 3G, 3GS and 4)
The new iOS 4.0.1 updates has increased the size of the signal bars but only a little more use of the iPhone with iOS4.0.1 will help us draw conclusions regarding it. Till then you can share your reviews.

Just suffered through the long download only to receive the error message stating my iPhone is no longer recognized and that a RESTORE would be necessary. Attempted RESTORE only to receive another error message. Apple is following Toyota in a quality spiral!
Update killed my phone, had to restore it.
Download wasn’t terrible for me, had an error (#9 I believe) trying to update. Had to restore. Restore went fine.
FINALLY THE FIX IS fixed…..
Once again, update a 3gs with what was good software, blows up. restore the beginning and lose way too much stuff.
Mac boys, you are better then this. Had a Mac in the early 80′s – what is up?
Jay-welcome to the shouldn’t be world of the jobs v gates…
one more – error 29 – i hate this crap….another 3 hours of rebuild and restore – a bad design/antenna – really causes a 3gs to blow up… really?!
I have a new 3gs 32gb because of an exchange, after the 4.0.1 update I have lost all reception where I live ? one minuet works with 1 or 2 bars but then goes to no service, before the down load i had full bars ? am resetting it now and will let you know the outcome.
Update fixed the issue which hadn’t really affected me in the first place as I never gripped the handset with my left hand. No issues updating

hey stan, everyone complaining about the same…i’d say apple should have tested it well before releasing it, as you said a lot is expected from Apple and apple should not be letting us down!…anyways good luck and thanks for sharing your experience

hey Khan you seem to be pretty lucky…many are facing problem while updating…could you share a trick or two? by the way could you tell us how the update works…and thanks for sharing your experience…
I got the Ios4.0.1 update on my 3GS and it downloaded and installed perfectly. Took about 10 mins. No error messages, no freeze ups, no “force to restore”. The only thing that has changed, is now instead of seeing 3-4 bars in my home (as I did for 3 years using 3G & 3GS models prior to update), I now see only 1-2 bars. 2 bars never for long, stays a steady 1 bar and a flicker every now and then to 2 bars. I know that the phone is now showing the “actual” reception I’ve always had. Just disappointed that it’s so poor. Considering I’ve had blackberries, blackjacks & a MotoQ that always showed near constant full reception. No matter how the phone was held. (I do have a jumpy signal depending how I hold phone. Wouldn’t call it as bad as the “death grip”, but didn’t have this issue on my 3G & 3GS running on the ios3 software. AT&T, please smarten up and make the reception stronger. Put up towers or upgrade to 4G signal. If not, I really hope Verizon nails the IPhone. Have a feeling they’d do it right.)
Hi, I downloaded 4.0.1 this morning and I’ve only had 1 bar while in town. The weird thing is that when I went in the country my bars went up to 4. I’m not sure why it did that but before it would be opposite. The other problems i have is my iPod and camera are very slow when turning them on. I was wondering if any of this has happened to anyone else? I hope apple gets it together and fixes these problems.
Excelent îndesat.
I’ve never been an Apple fan but I’d like to buy the new iphone 4gand I was wondering if the calls actually drop more than before or not. Thanks a lot. Sorry if it’s a bit off topic :P
