The two new Android cell phones on the block are poised to compete against each other. The android phones ultimate battle is with apple’s iPhone. But that does not stop the intra Android quest for supremacy. This time we are comparing the features of Samsung Captivate and Motorola’s Droid X.
Let us see how they stack up.
| Samsung Captivate | Motorola Droid X | |
| OS | Android 2.1 | |
| Storage | Up to 48GB | Up to 40GB |
| Display Size | 4” Super AMOLED multi touch | 4.3” LCD multi touch |
| Display Resolution | 800 x 480 | 854 x 480 |
| Primary Camera | 5MP | 8MP |
| Secondary Camera | None | |
| Flash | None | Dual LED Flash |
| Image Stabilization | Yes | Yes |
| Video Recording | HD 720p | |
| HDMI Out | No | Yes |
| Swype | Yes | |
Verdict
For me Motorola’s Droid X is the clear winner. Samsung may woo hearts with the Super AMOLED screen but I would still recommend Droid X if you want an all-round mobile experience. This is my opinion do let us know yours!

I was lucky enough to get a Droid X and this phone is amazing. Screen is beautiful, the phone is very fast, and Swype is an amazing program. This phone lives up to the hype..
The droidx front screed says (This phone belong to) How do I enter who the phone belongs to??
Sorry, but this comparsion is totally odd.
At first you should compare the flagship with the flagship, means the “normal” version of the Galaxy S from Samsung.
It has a secondary camera (wich no one really use it, so totally unimportand for the most people).
You can upgrade the 16GB version with a 32GB microSD card, makes 48GB on my watch.
It has image Stabilization and by the way, the 8MP camera of the Droid X has more MP but lesser quality in color and contrast.
The Display of the Samsung is way better, but you mentioned that already.
HDMI Out? For what? Every single modern TV, reciever, or Blu-Ray Player has an USB input and a smartphone isn’t a DVD-Player. And if you want to show something quickly without any waiting time the Samsung still have a TV-Output with good quality.
What you totally forgot to mention in you comparsion: the Samsung has much MUCH better Hardware in it.
At all the Droid X is a pretty good peace of technology but defenatly not better than Samsungs Flagship.
just got droid x. makes bb storm 2 look like a bag fone. for those of u old enuff to remember. would like to search contacts by tying in name. awesome fone
hey Beth Mahoney thanks for sharing your experience
Hey richard i beg your pardon, can you please elaborate it a little…as in when does your screen say that…thank you
A Mentor501 firstly thanks for correcting us w.r.t. storage and image stabilization and so i’ve made the necessary changes…and we shall follow your advice and come up with the flagship comparison soon…secondly some people do need to know about the secondary camera though as you said its mostly useless…thanks for taking your time out and correcting us…thank you
i see the vibrantas the best choice among all current phones because 1. Vibrant allows has the fastest processor (G4 does not perform at 1gzh ) 2. Vibrant has the fastest acceleration graphics chip, twice as fast as the Droid X 3. Vibrant has the only screen that can rival the G4. G4 has an awesome screen, though colors seem washed out 4. Network, vibrant reaches 5mbps download 2mbps upload. Droid X barely reaches 1.8mbps download and 0.5mbps upload. G4 if it works can barely reach 1.2mbps upload on 3G and 300kbps upload slowest of them all 5.Cost Verizon costs 100 us for 5Gb traffic. Att costs 100 for 2Gb traffic. Both companies well charge you after your limit is reached. T mobile offers 10Gb traffic before they throttle you Many more reasons exist. But if you live in a metro area. Thought us the best choice then Sprint then Verizon. Att is reallly not a viable option Between CDMA and GSM, GSM is the best choice, cause it allows you to transmit data and voice at the same time, CDMA does not!. This implies that you can use your GPS and talk on the phone at the same time or talk on the phone while you look something on the net. T mobile and Att allow this Verizon and Sprint don’t

I think that I can go without the HDMI port, but would love a better camera on the captivate. But as an AT&T lifer here (16 years and counting) I think you really have to look at the service… and I hate to say it but for the features both phones carry, Verizon is superor…
Just returned my Droid X to get the Samsung Captivate. The reason was that my Droid X had no battery life by 5 pm each day (I tried 2 batteries from Verizon). My impression is that:
1) AMOLED screen is better than the X (text and pictures look similar to the iphone 4).
2) Droid X is the largest phone out there right now! the Samsung is perfect with screen at 4″, less bulky.
3) The Samsung feels faster during screen navigation likely due to poor memory management of the Droid/Motoblur.
4) Battery life is twice as long (1.5 days of moderate use).
