I am not sure where the useful edge is. I have used a Droid X, here are my findings:
Size – Way too big for any useful pocket use.
Display – Good but no match to the iPhone in sunlight
OS – Well that depends on if you want it to work or you like to tinker and hack.
Memory – yes the droid has it there, I like the ability to expand my memory to unlimited not just 40GB.
Connectivity – While Stereo BT is OK, it’s sound quality is always poor compared to direct cables and useless on an airplane.
Battery Life – My Droid is dead in 4-6 hours max just sitting in my (CARGO) pocket, while my partners iPhone (in a coin pocket) is hardly off full.
Apps – No comparison in number or quality. The iPhone has it all the way.
Flash – It’s for ads. When you turn it off or uninstall you get a much better browsing experience, and a lot more battery life.
dear motrola droid x manufractures,
1. front faced camera with anti blur and timer shoot function
2. f.m. radio with built in antenna and listenable without head phone
3. screw hole of standerd camera stand
4. standard head phone jack
if these are fixed YOU WILL not only take the APPLE but entire smart phone business of the world for a decade.
I cannot use a non-US sim card on either phone. I will have to go to Hong Kong to buy either a unlocked iphone or a Droid with a sim card slot. Looks like most Americans do not travel much and never have the need to call while oversea. Amazing how most people live their lives stuck to one place.
I compared my iPhone 4 to my friend’s EVO and while on 3G, with the same SPEEDTEST app at the same time, the iPhone blew away the test and won it straight out. Of course of 4G that would not compare. The iPhone dispaly is much more crisp, even though the EVO has a larger display. EVO’s functions are mostly iPhone 3G borrowed or mimicked and surely has a leg up but not innovation, just mere expansion of Apple’s ideas… can we say Hi, Windows 7, looks like an Apple OS back in the day.
Anyhow, if iPhone 4 was not out, bar none I would have the EVO or maybe even the Droid X.
hey Radjin thank you for sharing your views and experience, like i have said i needed your opinion about this.
hey joni i guess if whatever changes you have mentioned are implemented Motorola would definitely become better. thanks for writing in.
hey marc thank you for sharing your experience.
hey Joenobody we understand your issues but i would say it would be so unfair to make such remarks regarding the Americans.
P.S we want your to know which one according to you is the better phone.
That sim card issue is a big one for anyone living or working abroad. Also I think Joenobody was just pointing something out and not trying to offend anyone.
@Rich yes that is correct but making a statement like what Joenobody made could be taken out of context and it may be offensive to some…
iPhone all the way. Apple put thought into their phone, the Android just tried to beat the iPhone and lost in my opinion.
What processors are used (and what speed) and whats the ram values? These are important and should not have been left out of an artical like this…
Sloppy…. Sloppier than my wifes sloppy sister….
hey andjoh iPhone does seem better but with all the reception issues, defects and controversies surrounding it, Android suddenly seems better…anyways thanks for your views…
@ tech Greg we did not put in that much info because when that article went online we did not have any confirmation about the minor details of Motorola Droid X and we did not wish to mislead by typing in wrong info…for the record iPhone 4 boasts of an A4 processor with clock speed of 1GHz and 512MB RAM while Droid X has similar processor 1GHz processor and 512 MB RAM…apologies for being so sloppy… thank you
Super site, and nice text.
I recently purchased a droid x and have been very happy with it.
I must say that if the iphone 4 were available on verizon i would have probably bought it instead. That being said, since the droid 4 was the best available to me i got it and have been very happy with it. I don’t feel i am missing out on anything by not having the iphone.
I love the freedom of being able to chose my provider!
AT&T really screws you with their contracts.
Long live the “DROID”
