God forbid there comes a day when you’re confronted with a situation where you wake up and find out that our beloved internet is in troubled waters and has been hijacked. Well, if that happens, don’t sweat. A mission to salvage you from endless pain is under way.
All across the globe, believe it or not, we have seven key holders who must unite and join hands, combining their powers to recreate the Domain Name System (DNS) security root key, which incidentally, is a security measure to make sure that websites are real and not flimsy pirated copies. The people who hold these keys are unfortunately, not mysterious individuals in long cloaks and awesome shades, they’re more like Mr.Paul Kane. An old guy in a suit.
The key holders are part of a group of 21 Trusted Community Representatives, who in turn, are members of the technical community who are chosen based on statements of intent solicited on the World Wide Web or simply put, the internet. Supposing something goes wrong, five of the seven members have to meet up and get together in the U.S in case the DNS security Extensions (DNSSEC) has to cut off the connections between important servers to stop the damage caused by hackers.
Well, now you can breathe a sigh of relief and go to sleep peacefully, knowing that the Internet is in safe hands.
